“Long Road Ahead” was the first kinetic figurative piece I have done. It runs off of two separate gear motors. One drives the wheels which in turn drive the movement of the man on the bike. The other motor rotates the front wheel. This piece also has several lights incorporated into the sculpture.
During the length of the “Poetic Kinetics” exhibit from Jan.9 2004 to Jan.8 2005, “Long Road Ahead” (If he wasn’t attached to a base.) has traveled approximately 4,424 miles. That’s about the distance from Los Angeles to New York and half way back.
