Driving Force is powered by one single electric motor. The power is then transferred throughout the piece through belts and pulleys, driving all of the various wheels and shapes. Many of the large wheels and elements used in Driving Force came from a local farmer in my home town of Highland, Utah. Fred Buhler raised pigs and other livestock, and was an eccentric collector of sorts. He collected old machinery, cars, and an incredible array of other objects, over a period of some fifty years. Reluctantly, he eventually sold his land, which is now being developed. While most of the items he collected would be viewed by many as simply “junk”, I was able to hand pick pieces to be used in my work as a sculptor, like those now used in Driving Force.
